Every household is unique, there are many factor that should be taken in consideration when determining how long the filter will last in good condition. If the household has pets (pets will shed hair and bring dust or dirt from the yard), for the same reason children will go frequently to the yard, how many people live in the property, an also the zone where the house is located. Based on this considerations: filters 1″ thick should be replaced between one to three months, for media filters 4″ thick, should be replace between four to six months.
In many cases a repair can be done and the unit could still operate at certain levels of efficiency. Factors that should considered at the time of deciding to repair or replace are: The condition of the unit, level of efficiency, Air quality that this system will provide (presence of mildew or microbial growth in the system’s cabinet), how long will it work after a repair is completed. When determining the efficiency of an Air conditioning system, the condition of the ductwork should also be considered.
A good comprehensive maintenance program is essential to keep an AC system operating properly. Customer must replace the filters on time and add a drain solvent to the condensate drain. Replacing the filters on time will prolong the life of the system by keeping the evaporator coil clean of dust and pollutants, adding solvent (vinegar, bleach or any equivalent) to the condensate drain line will prevent harmful bacteria from colonizing it.
